  • LinaBell's wait topped 100 minutes even with Early Entry, so skipping her is a fair choice

  • Bring your own autograph book and pen, since Cast Members often don't carry one

At Shanghai Disneyland, each guest gets a relatively generous amount of time with the characters. They take plenty of photos and spend time really interacting with you, so I was very happy with the character greetings here.

⏱ Which character has the longest wait?

The character with the longest wait in the park is LinaBell, one of Duffy and Friends. (She’s probably the most popular character in China.) Even with Early Entry, the wait was over 100 minutes, and the line often closed altogether before the afternoon.

👉 If you don’t have Early Entry, skipping the LinaBell greeting is a perfectly reasonable choice.

😊 Short waits, big smiles

On the other hand, Mickey and friends and the Marvel characters had relatively short waits of around 20 minutes.

During the Christmas season in particular, you can meet 🎅 Goofy dressed as Santa. It’s a rare, seasonal-only greeting, so I highly recommend it.

📌 Good to know before you queue

Disney generally avoids having the same character appear in two places in the park at once. So while a parade or character show is running, the characters at greeting spots go inside for a while and come back out after the parade ends.

👉 The line can stop or get longer during that time, so I recommend avoiding parade and show times when you queue for greetings.

🚻 A useful tip for solo visitors

If you’re on your own and need to step out of line to use the restroom or for something urgent, tell the Cast Member at the entrance of the queue. After filling out a simple form, you get a grace period of about 20 minutes to leave the line.

✔ If you come back within that time, ✔ you can rejoin the line at the spot where you were.

This is especially useful if you’re visiting alone, so keep it in mind!

📸 You don’t need PhotoPass

Even without buying PhotoPass, if you hand your phone to a Cast Member, they take photos really carefully for you. If you’re in a group, you can:

✔ take individual photos ✔ take group photos ✔ change poses several times

and still have plenty of time for pictures.

🗣 The power of a little Chinese

If you memorize a few simple Chinese phrases, the characters really love it and react much more. For example:

  • “你是我的最爱!” (You’re my favorite!)
  • “我真的很喜欢你!” (I really like you!)

Translate phrases like these with an app like Papago ahead of time and memorize them, then say them right before you meet the character. Their reactions really are different.

✍️ Tips for getting autographs

Characters at Shanghai Disneyland do sign autographs. But autograph culture isn’t as common here, so Cast Members often don’t carry pens. I strongly recommend bringing your own:

✔ autograph book ✔ pen

Maybe because the characters aren’t used to signing, they signed slowly and carefully, one by one. It felt quite different from the US Disney parks and left a real impression on me.
