If you’re planning to visit a Walt Disney World Resort water park this coming summer, there’s one item you really need to pack: water shoes (aqua socks). Apparently lots of visitors forget them and regret it. Today I’ve rounded up the tips worth knowing before you visit a Disney World water park.

The one thing you must not forget for a Disney World water park

Disney World has two water parks:

  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach

Disney's Blizzard Beach water park

  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

Right now only Blizzard Beach is open, but both water parks are scheduled to operate from May 26 to September 8, 2026. Visitor numbers are expected to climb as summer approaches – and that’s exactly when you’ll want water shoes.

Why do you need water shoes?

Anyone who’s been to a lot of water parks will relate:

  • ☀️ In midsummer the ground gets extremely hot
  • 🦶 Walking barefoot on the rough surfaces can even scrape the soles of your feet

You can wear flip-flops or sandals, but the problem comes when you go on attractions. Most flip-flops and sandals can’t be worn on the water slides, so you end up having to walk barefoot while waiting in line or moving around. That’s why water shoes you can keep on for attractions are much more comfortable.

Shoes that work well at a water park usually have these features:

  • ✔ Thin, flexible material
  • ✔ Dry quickly when wet
  • ✔ No zippers or metal decorations
  • ✔ Non-slip soles

Aqua socks / water shoes like these can often be worn on the slides as well.

  • Anyone visiting a water park in summer
  • Families visiting with kids
  • Anyone planning to go on lots of slides
  • Anyone who’s ever “burned” the soles of their feet 😂

💡 Disney trip tip

If you’re planning to visit a water park during the summer season, I recommend packing these four things:

  • ✔ Water shoes
  • ✔ A waterproof bag
  • ✔ Sunscreen
  • ✔ A waterproof phone case
